5 minutes with #TeamGuidant: Jade Lawrence, Client Services Director
By Steph Dyke, Marketing Manager
Our first ever 5 minutes with #TeamGuidant blog features our Client Services Director, Jade Lawrence.
If you’re unsure about recruitment, but you’re a people person that loves taking the initiative, and want a career that has opportunities to progress, you will resonate with Jade’s story navigating through the dynamic world of recruitment.
After finishing college at 18, Jade started on a temporary basis at one of Guidant Global’s sister companies, Blue Arrow. Not long after, she was working permanently for the brand, before deciding to move to Australia to work within the sector. A year later, Jade moved back to the UK, working at Guidant as a Recruitment Manager. Five years on she’s now Guidant Global’s Client Services Director.
Top five reasons why Jade loves working in recruitment:
1)You get to build relationships…
2)…in a stimulating environment…
3)…because you get to learn something new every day…
4)...so no two days are ever the same…
5)…thanks to the variety of people you come into contact with!
Who would a career in recruitment be good for?
J: I knew I didn’t want to go to university after college, but I still wanted to join a profession where I could progress quickly and build a successful career path which had longevity. If you want to do the same, then recruitment may be an ideal career choice for you.
How has recruitment been a rewarding career to you?
J: Being a trusted advisor to your client and candidates – and reflecting to see where you have added value - is incredibly rewarding, as is being able to bring new ideas and implement them to improve ways of working. Knowing that I have helped my customers to attract the best talent in the market and help them progress as an organisation brings great satisfaction.
Proudest career moment?
J: I feel proud of what I do every day, but having secured contract extensions or expanded services globally into new sectors with existing clients - thanks to the great service you have delivered - it really brings it home. Another high point is taking on the global Client Services Director role as a result. Winning the ‘Most Adaptive’ award at our annual company summer forum is also a high point in my career.
What would you say to those interested in joining #TeamGuidant?
J: Take advantage of being able to forge your own career path within the company as there are so many different routes you can pursue. I can clearly see how I have progressed to where I am now as a Client Services Director, and what else I need to do to get to the next level professionally.
Embrace opportunities for development and participate in more than just your ‘day job’. For example, I am passionate about diversity and inclusion and the culture it creates within a working environment, which is why I helped to create our internal inclusion brand, INfluence, to lead change within our organisation and beyond.
Any last words of advice?
J: Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding role and career. It will be hard work – but the satisfaction you get is worth it. Dealing with people from all backgrounds can be unpredictable, but being able to thrive on reacting to situations you may not have dealt with previously – and ultimately finding solutions to challenges – is very rewarding.
Knowing you are creating a difference to so many people, not only professionally, but also to their personal careers, is a great feeling which motivates you to want to do more.
