Careers at JCB: Georgia’s story

​JCB Academy alumni, Georgia, has been working with the company since she was 14, undertaking her GCSE and A-Level qualifications with the Academy. Now working as a New Product Introduction Manufacturing Engineer, she shares her journey with JCB.

An educational pathway to success with JCB

“I have been involved with JCB since attending the JCB Academy for my GCSE and A-Level qualifications. Over those four years I undertook various engineering projects associated with different aspects of JCB. I then completed a placement year with JCB as part of my undergraduate degree.

On the first day of my placement, I was thrown in the deep end and given projects to push my knowledge and understanding of Engineering, Production and Business. Throughout that valuable year I was able to experience working in multiple departments and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of how a global business operates.”

Taking the leap from the academy to the factory floor

“I was prepared to ask questions, willing to learn and wasn’t afraid to challenge others if I thought something could be done better or more efficiently. Although people took my ideas on board, it was also important for me to be open-minded and be ready to take constructive criticism in order to improve. By gaining all this experience I know I have a genuine opportunity to improve the efficiency of the production line as well as improving the environment that operators work in.”

Being part of a team that designs exciting new products

“My favourite part of being an NPI Manufacturing Engineer is being able to spend time in the production environment. I am in a unique position where I have the opportunity to take a new product and introduce it into production. This means that I spend time discussing designs and operational readiness; helping with static builds before moving into the production line to launch new machines. To have come from the Academy where I learned engineering fundamentals to now being part of the team where truly great JCB innovation gets delivered feels so rewarding.
