Careers at JCB: Harrison's story

By Daibhid MacCann, Senior Marketing Executive

After just a short time working as a temporary production operative through Guidant, Harrison was offered a permanent contract with JCB. Having been with the company for the past three years, he shares his story with us.

A temp to perm success story
Although Harrison has initially applied for a temporary production role through Guidant, it wasn’t long before his work ethic and skills caught the attention of his managers. Quickly into his temporary assignment, his potential for a role as a CNC Machinist became clear and he was delighted to be offered a full time, permanent contract with JCB, working at their World Headquarters in Rocester.

Challenging but rewarding work
When asked what made him choose JCB, Harrison tells us that it’s all about ‘the opportunity to progress in a challenging, fast-paced environment.’ And there’s good reason for this optimism. At just 22 years of age, Harrison has been able to purchase his first home. ‘The pay is great’ he says, ‘and it motivates me to want to be a valued member of a skilled team of experienced people.’

A fast-paced but friendly environment
Harrison currently works as a CNC Machinist for JCBs Hydraulics Business Unit in the Production environment. ‘it’s fast-paced and you have to be switched on’, he tells us, ‘but it really makes the day fly by!’. And even though he’s focussed on his work and operating machinery, he still finds time to have a laugh and get to know his colleagues. ‘There is no harm in talking to your colleagues when you have a bit of downtime, and it’s good to make new friends in the workplace.’

Taking pride in his work
Harrison enjoys the pace and challenge of his work, but it also gives him a deep sense of pride to know he is making quality products. ‘I enjoy the challenge of my role in JCB, and it gives me satisfaction to know I’m helping to produce high quality JCB products for our customers.’ And who has supported him in getting the most out of his JCB experience? ‘I work as part of a close-knit team who all pull together to deliver high quality results’ he says. ‘The leadership is fantastic and supportive, and I cannot fault them.’ Ultimately for Harrison, ‘the pay is good, and I get to go to work every day with like-minded people’, which allows him to build a life for himself and have job satisfaction.
