​Careers at Toyota: Dil’s Story

As Dil nears the end of his pre-promotional development course with Toyota, he shares his experience stepping up as a Team Leader while juggling work and life commitments.

Celebrating 10 years working at Toyota since being recruited through Guidant
Dil is currently part of Toyota’s pre-promotional development course – once it wraps up this September, he will be ready to progress on to the next level! At the moment, Dil stands in as a Team Leader, which involves supporting members who are work on the assembly line and fixing issues.

To Dilwar, the best part of the job is…
Getting acquainted with a variety of people and working closely with them as part of a team. While the work is fast paced and involves overseeing machines, teammates and problem solving, it is also fulfilling when everything goes right.

Since stepping up as a Team Leader, Dil’s got the opportunity to work with various people from different departments when solving issues and feels like he’s made a real difference once a problem has been ironed out. Dil shares, “I find it rewarding whenever I get something sorted out. Team members are really happy whenever I've helped them – it has a huge impact on their day.”

In the same fashion, his own Group Leader and Section Manager have been equally helpful and supportive with his own development and work.

Balancing work and family time
The night shifts are what Dil feels best matches his life commitments. Working nights allows him to pick his daughter up from school and spend quality time with her and his wife. Having recently bought a new house, he’s also able to spend time outside of work decorating and fixing up his new place.

Always improving to be a better person and teammate
The pre-promotional development course Dil is currently on has played a huge part in and outside of work. It has helped him connect and relate better with colleagues who come from all different backgrounds, and even applies the course’s learnings to help his daughter with schoolwork.
