Guidant Global celebrates another year of inclusivity at the Superhero Tri Series disability sports event
By Guidant Global
It’s big, bold and the UK’s one and only disability sports series. After a three-year absence, the Superhero Tri powered by Marvel returned to Dorney Lake last Saturday.
Founded by Paralympian, Sophia Warner, the mission of the Superhero series is simple; to create fun, full-throttle, mass-participation sports events where disabled people – AKA Superheroes – call the shots, not worrying about cut-off times or equipment restrictions.
Guidant Global are proud to have supported the series as a corporate partner since 2018, entering teams to take part since then in all Superhero Series events, whether that was in-person or at home.
Our trio for the tri!
Assembling in true Superhero fashion, this year’s #TeamGuidant participants were Tom Brooks (Head of Marketing), Wayne Evans (Project Co-ordinator) and of course, our Superhero Tri team captain, Stephen Salmon (Senior Marketing Executive).
Tom kickstarted the opening leg by swimming 400m of Dorney Lake, before handing over to Stephen who wheeled across a 10km route, before handing over to Wayne who ran the last 2.5km stretch, bringing Team Guidant across the finish line!
What the series means to us
Each member of our team can be regarded as a Superhero Series veteran, having now taken part in multiple events. Their drive to continually support these events and take part comes as a result of the unique environment and community created by the Superhero Series and the impact it can have on those taking part who are far too often excluded from mass participation sporting events.
Creating a more inclusive future for the next generation
This impact is particularly meaningful for Stephen who is a part of the disabled community and a driver for an inclusive future. Stephen is a supporter and fundraiser of the charity, Whizz-Kidz. On Saturday, he was able to spend time with a beneficiary of the charity hearing about the meaningful work they do and how that impacts him and his family.
Continuing his support for Whizz-Kidz and their purpose to empower young wheelchair users, Stephen will be taking on this year’s London Marathon on Sunday, 2nd October. He is aiming to break his previous Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon in a non-racing wheelchair which he had set himself at last year’s London marathon!
