Careers at Toyota: Carly's Story

​Since joining Toyota Deeside in November 2021 as a flexible employee, Carly has progressed to become a permanent employee under Guidant as of July 2022.

A typical day for Carly
For a day shift, it normally means an early start for Carly, Carly says “I get to work in plenty of time for the pre-shift brief”. Carly knows 5 processes and rotates throughout her shift. She tells us “A target number of machines is set at the start of the day to give us something to work towards”.

On night shifts, it is the same process for Carly at work, however, ‘there is plenty of time in the daytime to help me get chores done and relax’.

Working as part of a mixed team
Carly loves being part of her team. She says, “when I started, there were only 3 other females in the team, now there are 5!”. “I love the variety of people within the team and enjoy working with everyone”. Carly thinks highly of her team and says they were so ‘helpful and ‘approachable’ when she started and still are today.

Team activities outside of work
Carly says, “I am really looking forward to the Christmas bash as well as a planned football match which we can all get involved in”. Carly also told us that members were treated to a day out at Chester Zoo to celebrate 30 years of manufacturing. Working at Toyota means a great social life as well as a great work life!

Working hard and aiming high
Carly works extremely hard whilst at work and is now currently learning her sixth new process, telling us, ‘I love my current job as I get to learn new things all the time’. Carly has experience in a retail background so found it easier to pick up new things within the role but also felt the training given by Toyota really prepared her for the role. Carly is now working towards getting a Toyota contract which motivates her to continue doing a good job. Carly wants to keep progressing within Toyota and says “I would like to one day become part of the senior management team!”
