Running for cancer: Danielle's half marathon fundraiser

By Danielle Clarke, Director of Supplier Relationship Management

Danielle Clarke, Director of Supplier Relationship Management, is running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that was a good source of support for her late grandfather and family.

This half marathon is significant to me as it will be the first one I’m running for charity

I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support as my grandfather sadly lost his battle with cancer recently in November 2022. Macmillan were instrumental in providing support to him for his end-of-life care and I want to give back.

I’ll be running with four other people from my gym which will be a good source of motivation for all of us to lean onto while running the half marathon.

I’m excited and honoured to be able to give back to a charity that made such a big impact on my grandfather’s last few days
When he was still in hospital, Macmillan met us daily to ensure my grandfather got all the treatment he needed and arranged another bed at the hospital so my nannie could be with him each night. When palliative care started, Macmillan helped to bring a bed to the house and had nurses visiting daily so he could spend as much time at home instead of at the hospital.

I’ve chosen to run LLHM as it takes you through an iconic London route with great views and you get to revel in the energy from a great crowd and atmosphere.

The last half marathon I ran was a number of years ago, so it’s great that LLHM have lots of activities and music playing throughout the 13.1-mile run to keep participants going. I’m most looking forward to the Pride Party taking place during the race and the London Show Choir who will be cheering runners on with the best of the West End.

Guidant has always encouraged a work life balance
Because of this, I have been able to train first thing in the morning or around my lunch break so I’m in the best shape to run the race on the 2nd of April. The flexibility of work within the business has really enabled me to train and prepare as much as I can so I complete the race!

I’m aiming to raise £700!
Macmillan are a wonderful charity who carry out a variety of vital cancer-related initiatives, from providing aid for people living with cancer, to carrying out lifesaving research. The support we received has made such a huge difference to my grandfather and our family.

Any donation would be much appreciated for this brilliant charity and cause.
