Careers at JCB: Tracy's story

Single mum, Tracy, started out on the JCB team as a temporary worker within the Loadall team before becoming a permanent Stock Checker at the JCB World Headquarters in Rocester.

Learning new skills to support and inspire her family

“Through Guidant Global, I joined JCB as I wanted to learn new skills so I could support my family as I am a single mother. I feel proud to be one of the many women working at JCB and am working hard to always be seen as a role model for my children – which I think, has worked, as one of them now works within the JCB Loadall team!”

Rewarding teamwork and being a mentor for new starters

“I initially started on the JCB Loadall track before moving to the Loadall kitting tent where I supplied the line with kitted trolleys and covered any shortages or extra parts that the operators required – all while ensuring a smooth running of the track.

We are a solid team and I get to socialise with other operators on the line through our “sandwich club”, where we take turns treating each other to breakfast on a Friday! Outside of my team, both JCB management and the union help me feel like part of the wider JCB family.

I’m also a mentor for new starters, which means I help them help them settle in and be that person they can talk to, while passing on my own knowledge of my experience at JCB. Being a mentor definitely keeps me motivated as I never tire of seeing my mentees grow and develop their career within UK engineering.”

A challenging but rewarding job

“The role I’m in currently is Stock Checker. While the work has been challenging, it’s also been incredibly rewarding, and management have been beyond supportive. The team have embraced new obstacles and it has been eye-opening to see everyone up for a challenge.

I have flexibility within my role as a mentor and the wellbeing measures in place have also helped me establish a work-life balance.

I enjoyed my time as a Guidant Global worker and gave 100% of myself to the role. Since then, JCB has offered me full-time contract which has given me a new lease on life and a more secure future for myself and my family!”
