Are you an experienced Advanced Social Worker ready to make a difference in the lives of children and families? Devon County Council is seeking dedicated professionals to join the Assessment & Intervention teams in Exeter, offering a hands-on, leadership-focused role with a smaller caseload and opportunities to mentor and support colleagues.


About the Role

As an Advanced Social Worker, you will:

  • Provide professional leadership, supervision, and mentorship to colleagues within your team.

  • Work closely with your Team Manager to support day-to-day operations and contribute to a high-quality service.

  • Manage a smaller caseload of children and families with complex needs, undertaking in-depth assessments.

  • Champion evidence-based, high-quality social work practice, providing on-the-job training, coaching, and guidance to less experienced staff, students, and unqualified practitioners.

  • Support the continual improvement of practice standards within your team through reflective practice and learning opportunities.


About You

We are looking for Advanced Social Workers who can:

  • Demonstrate substantial post-qualifying experience (minimum 3 years PQE).

  • Lead work with families with complex needs in a multi-agency environment.

  • Mentor, coach, and train colleagues, influencing and improving professional practice.

  • Lead improvement initiatives and constructively challenge the quality of social care practice.

  • Hold Social Work England registration.


Team & Working Arrangements

  • Location: County Hall, Exeter (Exeter & East)

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 (37 hours/week)

  • Hybrid Working: Office & home-based (subject to service needs)

    • Required in office 5 days/week during duty week

    • 3 days/week or as required during non-duty week

  • Driving Requirement: Valid UK driving licence and access to a car
