The Capital Engineering Lead will be part of the Engineering leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering for PGMS, with a secondary reporting line into the Senior Programme Manager for Project Delivery.

The Capital Engineering Lead is responsible for providing Engineering direction and input to a £100M+ capital investment portfolio of Projects across the PGMS UK business. He/she will ensure that all capital projects meet Engineering requirements in accordance with business and regulatory needs, including owning and maintaining an Engineering Risk Register.

The Capital Engineering Lead will provide Engineering support to projects teams, ensuring cost effective decisions are made on engineering standards. He/she will ensure that all technical decisions made consider the whole life cycle cost of the asset, so that optimal value for money is achieved. The Capital Engineering Lead will ensure through clear Engineering direction that capital projects are delivered right first time.

The Capital Engineering Lead will be responsible for ensuring the latest available technology, industry best practices and value improvement opportunities are considered into the final design solution for the project.

  • Leads the engineering direction for portfolio of major projects and programmes of work circa £100M.
  • Ensures all engineering requirements are included in project budgets and timing, standards and programme objectives.
  • Provides guidance to teams on managing technical interfaces between all stakeholders for the project.
  • Leads Engineering technical issue resolution between engineering disciplines and operation functions, providing advice, support and consultation both internally and externally.
  • Encourages identification and proposals for use of new technologies to gain competitive advantage.
  • Regularly demonstrates innovation and creativity, inside and outside of individual projects.
  • Contributes to project management activities, leading risk management and auditing activities.
  • Establishes standards and procedures on projects. Ensuring that all relevant engineering specification documents are prepared in adherence to JM, British Standards, EN Standards/ international standards / codes of practice.
  • Ensures both self and others adhere to business/JM EHS/regulatory standards within multiple projects and is active in driving EHS improvements.
  • Contributes to compliance across the engineering function.
  • Establishes/maintains engineering standards and compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains an Engineering Risk Register for PGMS UK ensuring that business continuity and EHS impacts relating to plant and equipment reaching end of life, subject to ageing mechanisms and obsolescence are captured by risk and replaced/upgraded in a timely manner
  • Provides input to continuous improvement initiatives and assesses value or improvement opportunities for all concepts.
  • Responsible for assessing, evaluating and communicating relative project priorities
  • Ensures for self and team engineering knowledge is kept up to date. Maintain close contact with technical experts within the relevant engineering fields.
  • Ensures value added and value improvement engineering is factored into the design of capital projects and that best available technology is considered as part of equipment selection.
  • Ensures that total asset life cycle costs and length of asset life requirement are assessed and weighed up as part of the justification for the scope, technology and equipment selection for the project.
  • Acts as mentor for less experienced JM staff and contractors.
  • Develops understanding of JM's Sustainability policy and implement in project design where relevant.
  • Assists with troubleshooting during commissioning and start-up.
  • To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and capabilities whenever reasonably instructed.

canddiates need the following -

- Degree/ in Engineering, ideally having achieved Chartered/Incorporated status

- Minimum 10 years' experience working in a regulated operational environment (e.g. COMAH, Chemical) Oil & Gas etc.)

- Minimum 5 years' experience leading a technical team in front end engineering design in an operational environment.
