Giving children and young people the foundations they need to thrive.
The role
HIPSS provides a therapeutic service to looked after children and their carers. The service works with children and young people with complex needs from 6 to 18 years old. It offers those who have experienced significant trauma in their lives an opportunity to overcome adversity and have the chance to form stable and secure relationships with their carers and learn to be a child again. Our model of practice is DDP.
As a Clinical Psychologist you will be part of a dedicated, friendly and creative team of professionals from psychology, education, social care, fostering and youth work backgrounds providing a full wrap around support system for children and young people. Our work is always underpinned by an individually developed biopsychosocial formulation.
You will make a difference by:
- Develop and provide a high level systematic Psychology service using our service model.
- Taking responsibility for governance of psychological practice and clinical supervision for the team.
- Manage the implementation of psychological interventions for children, carers, and families.
- Delivering training to both the team and Local Authority.
- On occasions you may be asked to do direct work with young people and their carers but most of your work is In- direct work with young people and families with complex mental health needs ensuring the highest standards of clinical record keeping, delivering best practice through application and embedding of effective professional case management and reflective supervision.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary manner to provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention.
- Developing shared plans to support the young people and carers on your caseload.
- Working with the Locality Services Manager to develop and retain existing or new business opportunities and to contribute to and help put into practice new or revised policies that improve the quality of the service.
- Creating clinical assessments, evaluations and reports for the service and sharing with internal stakeholders and commissioners.
- Measuring the impact and supporting to improve systems and processes that support young people.
You will need:
- Doctorate or equivalent in clinical psychology.
- Registered as a qualified Practitioner Clinical Psychologist with the UK Health Care Professions Council and qualified to work in the UK.
- Experience of working with children in both clinical and community settings that are clinically orientated multi-disciplinary and multi-agency mental health settings.
- Have in-depth knowledge and proven experience of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and interventions, to include complex trauma, parenting interventions and systemic models.
- Experience of specialist risk and psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings:
- Experience of supervising staff.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection.
- An effective oral and written communicator with children, team members, parent/carers and other professionals.
- You will display excellent interpersonal and listening skill with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings, demonstrating enthusiasm and inspiration through this training.
