Salary: £17,000 per annum, pro rata

How do Action for Children work?

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 300,000 children, young people and families.

East Ayrshire Lisalanna Project provides a short break respite service throughout the year to upwards of 25 families and our residential service currently provides long term support for 2 young people. The young people who attend our project have a variety of disabilities and some display challenging behaviour. Both services are collocated with the Lisalanna Family support service in Cumnock, East Ayrshire

As a cook you will plan and prepare the evening meals for the young people that are at the service. This will involve encouraging positive and healthy choices, prepare order of the food (you won't be placing the order) and keeping to an agreed budget. All food will be cooked from fresh and you will be working alone so you will also need to prepare, cook and wash up. We are looking for someone who can commit to 4 hours (2.30-6.30pm) over 5 days and this will include weekends.

How will you make a difference?

  • By allowing you people to try new foods for the children
  • By maintaining a healthy balanced diet for the children
  • By preparing homemade fresh food for the children

What will you need?

  • Experience of working in a kitchen
  • Food Hygiene or allergy awareness certificate
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to multi task
  • Be able to cook from a menu and support in menu creation

How will we reward you?

  • Minimum 29 days' holiday (pro-rata)
  • Flexible working, including maternity, paternity and adoption packages
  • Season ticket travel loans
  • Company pension scheme
  • Discounts at major high street retailers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to vulnerable children's lives and to build a fulfilling and meaningful career with a leading UK children's charity.

Action for Children is committed to safer recruitment practices, designed to protect the welfare of the children and young people using our services.
