Keeping our sites, teams and the people we support safe and secure.
The role
Woodland Lodge is an 8-bedded home providing short breaks to children and young people between eight and eighteen years of age with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and/or complex health needs. We work in close partnership with children, young people, families and associated professionals who also support their needs.
As a cook you will plan the weekly menu and prepare the meals for the young people that are at the home. This will involve encouraging positive and healthy choices, planning for individual dietary requirements, preparing the food shopping, placing the order and keeping to an agreed budget. All food will be cooked from fresh and you will be working alone so you will also need to prepare, cook and make sure that the food areas are left clean.
How will you make a difference?
Reliable and child-focused, you'll be the difference in these young lives;
- Planning exciting meals, that are nutritious, varied and tasty, taking into account the children's dietary and cultural requirements.
- Taking full responsibility for compliance with all relevant food hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
- Ensuring that all stock is order and replenished as needed, that food is correctly stored in line with guidance and that stock is rotated and all equipment is kept clean and in good repair.
- Keeping waste to a minimum, ensuring our impact on the environment is as minimal as it can be.
- Managing the food budget and taking responsibility for the expenditure and invoicing.
- Always following latest legislation in relation to food and food hygiene and taking part in all necessary and required training as needed.
- Being passionate about food and offering the best meals possible to our children.
What you will need?
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or a willingness to achieve.
- Experience of meal planning and stock control.
- Desirable: Experience of working in an environment with children and young adults with additional needs or other.
