Be part of the future of Stratospace

AALTO, is pioneering the world's first solar‑powered, stratospheric platform - Zephyr. Designed to fly continuously for months at a time, Zephyr operates above 60,000 ft, enabling breakthrough applications in direct‑to‑device connectivity, environmental monitoring, and high‑resolution Earth observation.
Joining AALTO means joining a growing, mission‑driven team shaping an entirely new aerospace domain: Stratospace.

About the Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key part in delivering electrical design solutions that support multiple Zephyr programmes. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will help develop and maintain digital design records and collaborate closely with production, procurement, partners, and wider engineering teams.
This role is ideal for someone with strong SolidWorks Electrical experience who wants to apply their skills to innovative, aviation‑focused projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create high‑quality electrical designs using SolidWorks Electrical, ensuring accuracy and compliance with system‑level requirements.
  • Support Systems and Avionics teams by maintaining production design records and implementing design changes.
  • Select appropriate electrical components and ensure all designs meet programme performance needs.
  • Act as a central point of contact for electrical design queries across engineering and production functions.
  • Provide hands‑on support to the build line, helping resolve electrical issues as they arise.
  • Participate in design maturity reviews and follow established configuration and change‑control processes.
  • Work closely with Production and Procurement teams to embed Design for Manufacture (DFM) considerations early in the design lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in aviation‑focused electrical design.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks Electrical (essential).
  • Experience with PDM systems (advantageous).
  • Ability to translate system‑level requirements into complete design solutions.
  • Practical experience resolving emergent electrical issues in a fast‑paced environment.
  • ONC/HND or equivalent background in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering (or strong relevant experience).

This is considered a relatively junior role, but hands‑on expertise with SolidWorks Electrical and electrical drawings is essential.

Why Join AALTO?

  • Work on cutting‑edge aerospace technology within a rapidly expanding organisation.
  • Contribute to sustainable, high‑impact innovations with real‑world applications.
  • Collaborate with highly skilled engineers and specialists across multiple disciplines.
  • Opportunity for contract extension, with a potential pathway to permanent employment.
  • Hybrid working environment and supportive team culture.
