My client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of spacecraft, satellite and secure communication systems. They are an international pioneer within the Defence and Space domain, delivering challenging and exciting projects based on the latest, cutting-edge technologies.

Due to growth, they are currently recruiting an EMC Systems Engineer join their established site based in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Job Profile

This role will be working on cutting edge Telecommunications Satellites, the EMC Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the Telecom Payloads and the Payload equipment are compliant for all EMC and ESD aspects.

The EMC Engineer will analyse the Payload EMC performance and be responsible for establishing EMC compliant designs, to the satisfaction of Project, the Payload Engineering Manager and to the Satellite customer, presenting the EMC Design analysis and Payload Test results.

Managing the Payload EMC testing throughout its test campaign and supporting the Satellite EMC prime contractor.

Signatory for all equipment level EMC aspects.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the Electromagnetic Compatibility of Telecommunication Payloads and Payload equipment.
  • Requirement's analysis
  • Derive suitable Control and Test plans for Compatibility management on third party platforms
  • Analysis of suppliers Equipment designs; review of all supporting documentation; SoCs Statement of Compliances, procedures, reports etc.
  • Assist communication payload proposals, studies and research and development initiatives
  • Working with design engineers to advise on EMC test specifications and production of test procedures and reports as required
  • Advise appropriate EMC solutions through design analysis to identify required control techniques and good design practice
  • Travel to suppliers may be required to support testing of equipment's, control test programmes and assist with test reporting
  • Equipment specification development
  • Liaison with customer representatives and participation in design reviews and meetings

My client is looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of EMC issues associated with equipment and systems operating in the frequency range to 30 GHz and beyond.
  • A team player who is well organised, has strong communication skills with the ability to work on their own initiative

Mandatory skills:

  • Experience of EMC Testing to Military / Defence / Avionics specifications [Mil Std 461/462; Def Stan 59 41; D0160].
  • Able to analyse equipment and systems contribution/response to the Electromagnetic environment.
  • Application of EMC/ESD design techniques

Ideally, you'll hold a BSc Physics or Electronics or similar and be proficient with MS Office, EMC Test Equipment Hands on capability, Spectrum Analysers, Receivers and Field Generation Systems.

Role details:

You will work a 37-hour week with an initial length of contract 12 months.

This opportunity sits inside IR35 and will be offered subject to successful referencing and BPSS clearance process.
