The UK's trusted Ministry of Defence partner, MBDA, is looking for an experienced Information Systems Solution Engineer to define, implement, and adapt MBDA's Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and Information Systems (IS) strategy to the needs of the business and users. The role is based in Bolton.

As an Information Systems Solution Engineer, the successful candidate has responsibilities for supporting and deploying business applications, with IS Engineering supporting a key pillar of our business.

The IS Engineering Solutions teamwork as part of IS to support MBDA programmes and transformation activities.

What you'll get to do as an Information Systems Solution Engineer:

The development team will deliver a new project, an end-to-end lab environment utilising Cloud technology. The aim is to have a dynamically sized, easily duplicated environment with a copy of our production engineering toolset with representative data. The Information Systems Integration Lead will be responsible for deploying this new environment and managing the toolsets deployed.

  • Technical compliance with Technical Quality and Results through the project lifecycle in the UK provides a technical appraisal of progress.
  • Delivery of relevant Proof of Concepts
  • Technical acceptance for the UK instances of the international tools when delivered by suppliers.
  • Gathering and disseminating technical lessons learned at the Natco level.
  • Provide subject matter expertise at all stages for the application layer working closely with the Solution Architects in the UK
  • Technical "hands-on proximity" engineering activities are required to assist the UK nationally deployed services as part of the IS Engineering Delivery team for the UK

What we're looking for:

  • Essential - Infrastructure and operating standards such as SQL, DB2, Active Directory, Virtual Machines, WebSphere, Active Directory, Licensing, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Windows is essential
  • Essential - Installing server-based applications
  • Advantageous - Deploying services within Azure
  • Advantageous - The lifecycle of information systems, including acquisition and development of new technology, with a view on utilising automation
  • Advantageous - UNIX and containerisation
  • You must be a UK national or citizen to be eligible for the role.

The current major Engineering Solutions that cover mechanical/electrical engineering, product definition and configuration, logistics support and technical publications are:

  • PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) built on PTC Windchill plus the connected tools including Creo, Zuken, Creo Illustrate
  • MatriX Space for collaboration is also built on Windchill.
  • NTIP for LSA and Technical Publications built on MPMLink within Windchill connected with Arbortext publishing engine
  • MatriX Portal built with PTC ThingworX.

MBDA's relationship with the UK military spans back over 70 years. They have delivered countless landmarks in defence engineering, supplying vital defence capability to meet the needs of the armed forces over land, sea, and air.

This role is based at MBDA's headquarters in Stevenage which plays a key part in missiles operations. The site also offers excellent transportation links and boasts an onsite gym and coffee shop. Training and development are offered to all employees.
