Guidant Global is recruiting on behalf of a highly recognised university for TWO Library Assistants for a 3-month contract duration with an immediate start.
This is a part-time position for TWO Assistants. The working hours are the following:
Post 1: 22 hours per week.
Work pattern: Monday - Wednesday 17.00-22.00; Saturday 10.00-18.00
Post 2: 19 hours per week:
Work pattern: Monday - Tuesday 18.00-22.00; Wednesday 19.00-22.00; Thursday - Friday 18.00-22.00
In this role, you can expect to:
- Respond to customer enquiries received at the Library Issue Desk, via the live chat service (LibChat) or by email (LibAnswers) in a timely and professional manner.
- To staff the Library Issue Desk on a rota basis and provide assistance to customers with the use of library collections, resources and services including borrowing, membership, room bookings and online resources, referring more complex enquiries as appropriate.
- Provide assistance to customers in using the Explore Access Points to search the library catalogue, e-journals and e-books, and demonstrate the use of the self-issue machines and multifunctional devices (MFDs) for photocopying, printing, and scanning, referring more complex enquiries as appropriate.
- To provide assistance and troubleshooting support for users of the library's bookable spaces and assist with day-to-day management of booking requests using LibCal.
- Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of technology located within the library including self-service equipment, multifunctional devices (MFDs) for printing and copying, laptop loans, Wi-Fi and Desktop PCs.
- To manage requests for Click and Collect services and document supply from other libraries, and process materials delivered to the library.
- Register new customers on the library databases and relevant access systems.
- To assist with collection management processes including accessioning new stock, repairs, loan status changes, tagging, re-labelling and relegation of stock. This may involve moving book trolleys and some lifting of heavy items.
- To assist with checking reading lists and adding to the institution service, as required.
- Assist with marketing and promotion of the library's resources and services using a variety of channels including social media.
- Help ensure that the library spaces are maintained to a high standard. This will include assisting with Health and Safety inspections and monitoring.
- Assisting with the closure of all areas of the Library at the end of each day, including ensuring equipment is turned off.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge |
5 A*-C GCSEs or equivalent |
Experience in dealing with the public and providing excellent customer service |
Excellent IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications |
Experience of working in a library/information environment |
