As the UK's trusted Ministry of Defence partner, our client is expanding its engineering capability and is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join Europe's leading missile systems organisation. You'll design and deliver military packaging solutions within a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary team, taking concepts through to production while collaborating closely with stakeholders and suppliers to solve complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Military Packaging Design Team, supporting critical defence programmes.
  • The role spans the full product life cycle, from concept and detailed design through trials, qualification, production, and in‑service support.
  • You will design and develop robust mechanical packaging solutions for complex military and defence applications.
  • You will take technical ownership, influencing design decisions to ensure compliance with performance, safety, cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • The role involves close collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams, including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
  • Responsibilities include participation in design reviews, verification and validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • This position offers the opportunity to contribute to mission‑critical products operating in demanding environments.
  • Appointments will be made at an appropriate level, aligned to the candidate's skills, experience, and demonstrated capability.


What do you need?:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), supported by relevant industrial experience
  • Demonstrated capability to operate effectively within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, contributing across mechanical design work packages
  • Proven experience across the full product lifecycle, from early concept and development through to in‑service support
  • Strong understanding of design verification, validation, proving and qualification activities
  • Hands‑on experience applying recognised design methodologies, including DFMEA, DFA and DFM
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and make sound technical decisions
  • Experience working with, developing and managing suppliers and external partners
  • Ability to prioritise workload, manage technical risk and support the development and mentoring of junior engineers
  • Relevant 3D CAD and CAE experience (training provided on company‑specific tools)
