Multi Systemic Therapy Therapists x 3

Location: Wigan

Salary: £32,200 + £700 on call allowance

Contract: Perm FT 37 Hours

How we work:

Action for children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year our organisation changes the lives of 390,000 children, young people and families.

Wigan MST service is a commissioned service by Wigan Council aimed at supporting families whose children are on the edge of care or entering custody.

We work intensively with parents, for up to 6 months, in line with the MST treatment model. MST intervention usually takes place in the family home through regular therapist home visits, identifying problems causing misconduct of a child/young person and overcoming these challenges with the family so that they can make and sustain change.

The service currently operates from Worsley Mesnes Methodist Church, Holt Street, off Poolstock Lane, Wigan. WN3 5HS. The roles require team members to work flexibly and across the whole borough.

Wigan commissioning has indicated an ongoing commitment to delivering MST intervention for its families, hence these roles being advertised as permanent. However, secondment requests for fixed periods of time will be considered.

The therapists will need a postgraduate degree in a related subject area (i.e. psychology, social work or counselling). Candidates with a related undergraduate degree and significant clinical experience which is relevant may also be considered.

Working in a team of 3 therapists, you will assess families and support them to identify priorities to work on; this will usually take place in the family home and you will need to ensure improvements are made and sustained. Taking direction from the supervisor you will ensure adherence to the MST model and ensure sustainability plans are in place for families at treatment end. You will need excellent communication skills to work effectively with other agencies and attend multi agency meetings. A weekly requirement to upload paperwork is required, as is attendance at group supervision.

Closing date Friday 20th September. Interviews will be held week commencing 7th and 14th October.

Other information

The therapist role will require a high degree of flexibility in their role; early and late visits to families being frequent and regular on call responsibility.

You will receive full training in MST as well as have ongoing development plans in place and access to 'booster training' by an MST expert quarterly.
