We are recruiting for a part-time OH ADVISOR (Occupational Health)
KEY: NMC Registered - Industrial/Chemical/Pharmaceutical Environment Experience - Postgraduate Qualification
This role is part time, for up to 30 hours per week (4 full days) and the successful candidate will join a small Occupational Health Team providing services on site to all employees within an International Chemical Manufacturing Company based in Royston, Hertfordshire.
Must be a strong communicator, able to work collaboratively as part of a close-knit and multi-disciplined team to facilitate the smooth running of the OH Department.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Deliver and administer the Health Surveillance/Screening programmes in line with Company and Departmental policies and procedures
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with departmental policy
- Maintaining up-to date and accurate manual and computerised records for OH in accordance with Data Protection, Medical Confidentiality and Company requirements
- To educate all employees in the Occupational Health standards and requirements of the Company, to raise levels of compliance
- Deliver Occupational Health case management and rehabilitation services in partnership with Management, HR, EHS, the OH Manager and OH Physician
- To asses an individual's immunity to certain diseases and where appropriate give advice, administer appropriate tests or administer vaccinations to employees consistent with current departmental protocols and Department of Health guidelines
- To assess individuals fitness to work by reviewing paper based Health questionnaires and by performing new employment health screening interviews
- Undertaking work place visits to survey working environments, understand working conditions and working with the EHS team, giving advice on practical Health and Safety improvements in line with relevant H&S legislation
- To assist in the development of proactive and reactive programmes to deliver health promotion, work ability and employee wellness activities for all employees across the business
- Take responsibility without supervision for monitoring interventions for the care of employees within the working environment
- To provide a service enabling employees to safely fulfil their role and facilitate their safe, early return to work where possible
- Generate and disseminate effective management reports to referring Managers where consent has been granted
- To autonomously prioritise, plan and maintain own management referral caseload
- Assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for all services delivered within the department
- To participate in and support activities within the OH Department including departmental audit
- To maintain up-to-date knowledge of on-going issues within the OH department in order to provide assistance to the wider business, should the need arise
- Participate in relevant in house training and induction programmes for new and existing employees
- Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical procedures and escalate as appropriate
- Accept accountability and responsibility for the management and effectiveness of the clinical service on a day to day basis in the absence of the OH Manager, recognising appropriate skill mix, staffing levels and staff competency, in order to deliver a quality service
- Be responsible for specific area(s) of interest and develop and maintain evidence based resource for this
- Share professional knowledge and expertise through formal and informal teaching using flexible methods of delivery
- To complete any other reasonable tasks as requested by the OH Practitioners or Occupational Health Physician which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed
Qualifications/Professional Skills:
- Registered Nurse on NMC Register with at least 3 years broad post-registration experience
- Post-graduate qualification in Occupational Health
- Proficient in working with MS Office packages including use of OPAS or similar OH Database
- Working knowledge of H&S legislation
- 2-3 years of OH experience in an industrial/chemical/pharmaceutical environment
- Case management experience

- Previous experience working in OH Advisor (Occupational Health) role with technical skills: Immunisations, Audiometry, Spirometry, Urinalysis etc.
