JOB PURPOSE:

We're looking for a highly organised and motivated Planning Support Officer to join our busy Planning and Place team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the smooth delivery of our statutory planning functions and provide vital administrative and customer support to the wider team.

As part of a high-performing, high-volume service within a local authority environment, you will play a key role in supporting planning applications, public consultations, and related regulatory processes. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting, with a strong eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Register planning applications in accordance with the Local Validation List and ensure data is accurately uploaded/labelled on relevant systems.
  • Undertake all necessary consultation for planning applications within required timeframes (neighbour letter, site notice, press advert, electronic notification etc.)
  • Register public consultation responses to planning applications, ensuring comments are uploaded onto the website in accordance with GDPR requirements.
  • Issue planning decisions, tree work decisions and planning pre-application advice letters within required timeframes.
  • Register pre application advice requests ensuring that the applicable fee and necessary information has been received.
  • Register planning enforcement complaints ensuring that all necessary information has been recorded onto applicable systems.
  • Register tree work applications ensuring that all necessary information has been recorded onto applicable systems.
  • Under supervision assist in the preparation of committee packs for planning committees.
  • Under supervision undertake a range of support tasks relating to the administration of planning appeals.
  • Respond to resident and customer enquiries by email and telephone.
  • Undertake other business supports tasks as required.

Essential:

  • Experience working in a technical or regulatory environment (such as planning, housing, licensing or environmental services). Experience of working in a customer focused team.
  • Good ICT skills including the use of computer databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Good communication skills including telephone and written communication.
  • A good understanding of the role of a Local Planning Authority and the regulatory planning process.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume workload in a structured and accurate manner.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work to tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
