The role
Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 370,000 children, young people and families.
Action for Children is working in partnership with Chance UK to deliver the Mentoring Programme in Merseyside for children aged 5-11 who need additional support for behavioural problems. The programme is designed to improve the lives of children by offering them individually adapted one-to-one mentoring with a carefully screened, supervised and trained adult volunteer.
You will make a difference by:
- Overseeing the activities between the volunteers and young people, ensuring they are safe, stimulating and fun.
- Coordinating, training and supervising volunteers, ensuring they are well equipped to carry out their roles competently and confidently.
- Demonstrating the benefits of the service to social work teams and commissioners and facilitating ongoing referrals.
- Ensuring young people in care are benefitting from supportive and caring relationships with their volunteers that positively impact their wellbeing and life chances.
-Publicising and promoting volunteering opportunities with individuals, community groups, professionals and other relevant agencies and to scrutinise applications form potential volunteers.
- Providing a high-quality service to children, young people and their families based on a selection of need.
- Reviewing, assessing, and following up on Junior Mentor and Workshop referrals.
- Delivering solution focused interventions.
You will need:
- A minimum Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent in a related field (e.g. teaching).
- Driver's Licence and access to own car to use for business purpose is Essential.
- Experience and /or skills in volunteer recruitment, training and supervision would be an advantage.
- Ability to liaise with a wide range of individuals (e.g. social workers, foster carers, young people).
- Excellent writing skills (e.g. to compile quarterly reports to local authorities).
- A positive and caring attitude.
- To be IT Literate.
