The role
Dundee Youth Housing Support provides a diverse range of prevention and support services to young homeless people, care experienced young people and young people with additional needs in the Dundee area. The mainstay of the service is to provide supported accommodation and outreach support for 16 to 21 year olds who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
The service operates 24/7 providing a mixture of direct access and temporary accommodation for up to 33 young people across 3 sites. There is also an extensive outreach service. DYHS is currently supporting approximately 60 young people. You will be required to work a shift pattern that also very occasionally includes waking nights.

- By providing a high quality service to children, and young people, based on an assessment of need and is outcomes driven.
- By delivering a complex and specialist interventions with children and young people on a 1:1 basis, group or community setting.
- By providing lead case/care planning management, including undertaking assessing, reviewing and managing risks
- By attending and participating at relevant multi agency meetings, providing a lead role ensuring reflective and analytical practice review
- By being responsible for day to day resource planning to ensure high quality services are delivered.
- By establishing and developing effective relationships and channels of communication with children, young people, families, colleagues, community organisations, partner agencies and other external agencies
- By retaining accurate and contemporaneous records, using various IT systems to capture information and to produce written reports and present these as necessary.
- By reviewing and evaluating service provision with others, ensuring continued improvements are made.
- By supervising, guiding or directing staff and volunteers where necessary.
- By ensuring a safe and positive work and service environment is achieved through compliance with all safeguarding, safer recruitment, health and safety policy and procedure
The person
You'll need:
- Knowledge and awareness of methods of prevention of homeless intervention.
- Knowledge of the issues and barriers facing vulnerable young adults who may at times lead chaotic lives.
- A driving License and use of a car
- Essential - SVQ 3 in social care or willing to work towards
- A knowledge of the issues and barriers facing homeless young people
- Carry out night shift and/or sleep in duties if required
- A knowledge of statutory and voluntary agencies
- Experience in developing support plans
