The role

Kingfishers provides supported housing/Independent Living to young adults (18-25 years) with a Learning Disability and some mental health difficulties, the placement is for 2 years with the aim of young people living in their own tenancies at the end of their time with us. The young people learn how to manage a tenancy, developing skills such as budgeting and paying bills, cleaning, cooking, shopping, independent travel and understanding health and safety. The young people also learn about keeping themselves safe with relationships, looking after their health and work towards gaining employment so that they are equipped for living as independently as possible at the end of their time with us. We support the young people to find the best move on possible at the end of their placement and support them for the first few weeks to help them settle in to their new living situation.

The successful candidate will provide support to young people by agreeing and directly delivering interventions, with appropriate direction, which enable positive and agreed outcomes to be achieved, in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.



You will make a difference by:

- Providing a high quality service to young people and their families, based on an assessment of need and is outcomes driven.

- Delivering interventions to young people on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting, with appropriate direction.

- Maintaining effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and with young people and families and where necessary encourage and promote involvement to achieve positive outcomes.

- Being alert to safeguarding issues and inform appropriate line managers of concerns in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.

- Attending and actively participate in relevant multi-agency meetings.

- Being responsible for organising achievement of work objectives on a daily basis, including both pre and forward planning. This will include the ability to lone work.

- Retaining accurate and contemporaneous records, using various IT systems to capture case details, outputs and outcomes as necessary and to produce written reports and present these as necessary.

- Providing on call support to young people overnight, dealing with any emergencies that may occur.



You will need:

- S/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent (or ability to achieve). (may need to be specific to client group; e.g. Early years/youth work/mental health etc.)

- Experience of working in a social care setting with adults, learning disability and mental health.

- Experience of working as part of a team or as an individual to deliver a frontline service.

- Experience of preparing clear and concise file notes and inputting information into office systems.

- Ability to engage and work with children, young people and their families, demonstrating a range of communication skills i.e. written, verbal applied in a variety of formats and situations.

- Ability to identify and assess individual needs.
