Salary: £15,839 pro rata

Fixed term until 31st March 2020 with possible extension

Hours: 15 hrs per week (2 days 9-5.30)

Based at Greet Green Children Centre B7 9EZ

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 370,000 children, young people and families.

Action for Children is responsible for delivering The Sandwell Family Offer contract in Oldbury, Smethwick, West Bromwich and Wednesbury. The town focussed service commissioned by Sandwell MBC provides services for the most vulnerable children aged 0-19 years (25 for SEND) and their families via a range of targeted interventions including 1:1 family support, parenting programmes and support groups. The Family Offer service also includes the following interlinked elements:

  • Information points for local parents
  • Universal early years "Play, Talk, Read" project
  • A universal Antenatal Education Programme
  • A health promotion role linked to work with children young people and their families
  • A Employment and Training role

We are looking for 1 part time administrative assistants to support our centre in West Bromich. The role is for a 15 hours per week - 2 days at 9-5.30pm. Days can be discussed at interview stage.

How you'll make a difference:

  • By being first point of contact for families using our services including but not limited to; reception duties, meet and greet, answering phones, data input, daily health and safety checks, wellbeing follow up calls and safeguarding.
  • By having an excellent knowledge of IT programmes and being able to follow and set up systems.
  • By recording accurate information and retrieving data using our database.
  • By working as part of a team yet having the ability to work on your own initiative as required.
  • By being effective, intuitive, flexible, a problem solver and able to work to deadlines.

What you'll need:

  • Previous experience in reception role.
  • NVQ 2 in Business administration or equivalent.
  • You will be an experienced proactive receptionist with a can-do attitude and a willingness to help
  • You will have a professional yet personable approach to give the best first impression of our Children's Centre Services
  • You will have a flexible approach, the ability to work to tight deadlines and be able to manage changing priorities at short notice
  • You should be organised
  • You will have a good working knowledge of and experience of working with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Publisher
  • Database experience would be an advantage, but training will be given
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate clearly at all levels by phone, email and correspondence.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, understand safeguarding responsibilities and act with discretion.
  • The job requires the ability to travel within the cluster according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
