This is an exciting opportunity to work within a brand new service, Haydock Short Breaks is an 6 bedded service providing short breaks to children and their families aged 8 to 18 years of age. The service supports children and young people who have various disabilities and complex needs. The aim is to ensure that they provide a fun and welcoming environment.

As an Assistant Residential Worker, it will be your responsibility to liaise with the children, young people and their families to ensure that their care is always to the best possible standard. You will also be supporting them with all aspects of their care.

  • By supporting children and young people in their personal care, administration of medication and procedures in line with the services policies and procedures.
  • By providing a safe and fun environment to achieve positive outcomes.
  • By encouraging communication and participation across the service.
  • By promoting independence.
  • By attending appointments and meetings.
  • By building excellent rapports with Service Users, their families and other care professionals.
  • By updating care plans and risk assessments.

What will you need?

  • Experience of working with children or young people (experience working with children with disabilities would be an advantage)
  • Level 3 QCF Working with Children and Young People or equivalent is desirable, or the willingness to work towards this
  • Working of own initiative
  • A positive and confident approach to engaging with children and young people
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A flexible approach to working hours (service open seven days a week)
  • A good standard of written English and the ability to make accurate notes for record-keeping purposes
