The role

Rhondda Short Breaks is a 4 -bedded Residential Service providing overnight stays to children and young people, aged between 5 and 18 who have a variety of learning difficulties. The project provides support and opportunities to children, young people during their overnight stay.


As an Assistant Residential Worker, your role is to help the team provide a safe and caring environment, supporting the children with household tasks and all aspects of their care.

You will make a difference by:

- Giving children & young people opportunities to mix with their peers.

- Ensuring families have a break from their caring role.

- Promoting opportunities to children & young people.

- Providing a responsive and outcome driven service.

- Administering medication and supporting children & young people with their personal care needs.

You will need:

- Experience of working with disabled children & young people.

- Level 3 Diploma in Childcare or equivalent, within 18 months of taking up the post.

- Registered with Social Care Wales, or a commitment to undertake your induction and register within six months of starting the role.

- Attend team meetings and training as required to meet the needs of young people and the service.

- The flexibility to work varied shifts on a rota basis to cover the service 24/7.

- To work cross functionally with other Action for Children projects.
