Summary
Carry on hardware in line and final inspections. (Visual inspection, measurement inspection, electrical testing)
Provide technical comment and advice to the Spacecraft Production team regarding quality control, calling upon any specialist knowledge as appropriate.
Support Spacecraft Production operators / technicians in deciding on the severity of an incident or any go/no-go decisions that may be needed.
Advise and if required support the Spacecraft Production team leader on quality matters.
Review Spacecraft Production work instructions for technical integrity, regarding product quality requirements and standards, whether specific or more general. If needed, reject and assist manufacturing in the correction of errors. Review drawings as needed in support of a work instruction review.
Verify Spacecraft Production work instructions for adequate quality coverage through Quality Verification Points. If needed reject and assist manufacturing in the correction of errors.
Perform patrol inspection, not limited to the inspection of documentation and hardware but including Spacecraft Production process application, and also the controls and disciplines of the workshop such as: -
* Cleanliness
* Tool calibration
* Training records
* Request and/or carry out a process audit as and when necessary
* AIT process 'spot checks'
Profile
Assist Spacecraft Production operators / team leaders in the management of local non-conformances and non-conformance reports.
Raise an Occurrence Report if required and ensure that ORs are implemented fully ready for final closure. Consult the appropriate groups to check minor OR disposition.
Verify that technicians are adequately trained and in accordance with the skill matrix.
Has Authority to stop work on a particular build.
Skills/Experience Required
Essential -
2 year minimum in quality control or related discipline.
2 years in a manufacturing business
Knowledge on composite/carbon and/or electrical testing
Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives
Reporting skills - attention to detail is important
Computer skills - being comfortable to work on different digital tools and tablets. Able to quickly and proactively adapt to new tool implementation
Organised, practical and logical in work approach - with good communication and interpersonal skills
Flexibility to travel within the UK and Europe when required - on an occasional basis
Willingness to work on shift, on-call or off-site for short periods when required - also on an occasional basis
Desirable -
ESA qualification would be a plus
Recognised time served apprenticeship within the aerospace industry
3 years' experience within the aerospace or related industries.
Science based or electronics GCSEs
Experience with CMM would be a plus
Experience with 3D drawings (Catia)
Education & Training
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strong experience in a similar role
Other
The successful candidate will be required to pass BPSS security clearance before confirmation of contract offer.
Parking is provided for this role in a car park located approximately fifteen minutes' walk from site.
