The role
Action for Children Social Opportunities provides short breaks (tea time and weekends), youth groups and holiday activities for disabled children, young people and their families who are resident in Bury. You will be required to work within our community-based venues across the borough including Millwood School, The Elton Centre, Sunnybank Community Centre, Castle Leisure Centre and Bury Athletics Track.
We are looking for a Children's Services Assistant who can support a diverse group of disabled children/young people. You will be delivering activities & encouraging them to spend time with friends, have fun as any other child would, have a choice in how they spend their time, encouraging them to be part of their local communities & supporting parent/carers to have break. This role requires flexibility across evenings and weekends.
You will make a difference by:
-Working with a diverse group of disabled children and young people and delivering exciting social activities such as baking, arts 'n' crafts, sports, games and going out in the local community.
- Encouraging children and young people to make friends, enjoy their social time and be part of their local communities, as any other child and young person would.
-Monitoring and assessing individual progress and development through diary sheets and care plans.
-Ensuring that children and young people are nurtured in a safe environment.
-Supporting parents and carers to have a break.
You will need:
- No qualifications are required as full training will be given however NVQ Level 3 in Social Care (or equivalent) would be an advantage.
- Ability to engage with disabled children, young people, their families and carers and promote meaningful social opportunities within their local community and build meaningful relationships with each other.
- Experience of working with or spending time with disabled children / young people is an advantage but not a necessity.
- Enthusiasm and passion for making a difference, with the belief that every child / young person should have the same opportunities in life.
- Ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Willingness to work flexible and unsocial hours including weekends and evenings when required.
