The role Are you a naturally empathetic and self - motivated individual who is passionate about changing the lives of Children, Young people and their Families throughout the UK for the better? If so, you are in luck as we are currently recruiting Community Short Breaks Workers to join our team. Successful candidates will need to be able to work across the county and will have the option in choosing their base, Corby, Daventry and South Northants, Northampton, Kettering or Wellingborough.

Northants Disability provides short breaks for Children and Young People with disabilities and complex health needs and gives parents and carers respite from their caring responsibilities. We give our young people the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy experiences in a safe environment whilst enhancing personal and social development through after school clubs, youth groups, Saturday and school holiday clubs.

You will make a difference by:

  • Working as part of a team of Community Short Break Workers across a county-wide service which supports and encourages disabled children and young people aged between 5 and 18 to participate in a wide range of activities.
  • Delivering group sessions to children and young people such as arts and crafts, cooking, games and trips out.
  • Supporting Children and Young people during sessions with their personal care, maintaining personal hygiene and administering medication. Attending to their individual need.
  • Ensuring that young people have a positive experience in an environment which promotes enjoyment and independence.

You will need:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or the willingness to complete the qualification.
  • Previous experience working and engaging with Children and Young people with varying needs.
  • A positive and approachable manner.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding.
  • Ability to work flexible and unsocial hours including weekends and evenings when required.
  • Ability to build excellent relationships with Children, Young people and their families.
  • Excellent communication skills.
