The primary purpose of this role is to drive simplification, through clarifying, standardising and steam lining financial business processes. Delivering transparency and insight critical to support the wider business. The areas of focus include simplification of processes, embedding clear forecasting process, ensuring clear accountability and ownership, De-coupling Financial reporting from business management to ensue action.
The role will also cover transformation projects across PGMS, such as sustainability and ICFR with particular emphasis on managing interdependencies between all the major change initiatives underway. This role will also lead on certain change initiatives on behalf of Finance function, including business representation to support the simplification work in readiness for a new ERP implementation>
This role has direct access to senior management at each site and business unit in PGMS to co-ordinate simplification and change initiatives and ensure the interdependencies between initiatives are clear and understood. The role is expected to last between 6-18 months and dependent on volume of change initiatives / embedding of appropriate project governance deeper into the business.
Top 5 responsibilities
- Co-ordinate defined strategic simplification initiatives across PGMS, ensuring clarity of purpose, ownership and accountability. These areas include :
- Forecasting - Revenue, costs, working capital & Capital expenditure
- Supporting delivering insightful financial reporting and a platform for strong business management to drive profitability and balance sheet efficiency.
- Support in capital Investment process to deliver robust business proposals
- Support the business through Group lead initiatives such a sustainability and Internal controls
- Support the PGMS Finance Director in delivering proposals to the Metal Steering Committee and JM Group Finance Administration Committee.
- Support in driving simplification of business processes and act as advisory on potential automations and ERP implementations.
- Look for opportunities for further continuous improvement to core business and functional processes within PGMS, such as strategic planning, portfolio planning, controls and risk management.
- Act as delegate to PGMS Finance Director where needed across any of the above change and transformation agendas.
Principal accountabilities
- Review current end to end forecasting process for revenue, costs, working capital and capital expenditure, propose and implement a new process which drives, clarity, ownership and action.
- Support in driving process improvement of financial business reporting, de-coupling business management. Including supporting the financial business partners to present insight into the business performance, budget and strategic processes
- Support the capital Investment Appraisal process to deliver a smooth robust process, allowing PGMS to deliver solid and complete proposals to Sector and Group Capital panels.
- Support PGMS financial Leadership Team with the roll of new Group initiatives, providing expert coordination and guidance to the local finance teams to ensure a smooth implementation
- Represent PGMS as key contact to co-ordinate communication and progress across multi-functional change initiatives and programmes that are underway.
- Map the interdependencies between major change initiatives and programmes within PGMS and ensure these are clear and understood by stakeholders; embed ongoing management of these interfaces to ensure smooth and efficient transition of change.
- Lead the ongoing review of PGMS transfer pricing, supported by Group Tax, to ensure all intercompany transactions are at arms length, rectifying pricing where needed and embed new transfer pricing process to ensure new transactions are captured immediately.
- Prepare inputs for Metal Steering Committee and Finance Administration Committee meetings where approval to changes in process / policy need to be sought.
- Act as Finance representative on ERP Simplification project to provide guidance and challenge to proposed changes to core business processes.
- Continually look for other areas of change or process improvement to complement existing transformation initiatives, ensuring smooth interfaces and knowledge capture of interdependencies
- Work with PGMS business owners in areas such as strategic planning, portfolio planning, business performance reporting and controls & risk management to highlight critical process interfaces and touch points, and develop mechanisms for assessment of efficiency and effectiveness of those interfaces including improved reporting, consultations, RACI development and/or business operating cadence.
