Overview:

We are recruiting for an INTERIM SENIOR LEGAL COUNSEL to be based on site in the City of London within a large International Chemical Manufacturer.

This role offers full time hours and is an initial 3-month contract with possibility of extension.

Job Purpose:

To provide and manage high quality Legal Services throughout the Group and to ensure legal compliance and coordinated risk management for the Legal team.

Principle Accountabilties:

  • Advising the Group and Corporate functions on a wide range of domestic and international commercial matters including Procurement, Research and Development, IT, Tax, Treasury, Finance, HR, Corporate Communications and Security
  • Drafting and negotiating a variety of legal documents and commercial contracts; ranging from standard terms to bespoke agreements. Examples include: purchase agreements for both goods and services, joint development agreements, consultancy agreements, a wide range of technology agreements, including software licences, SaaS agreements, outsourcing agreements, development and system implementations and confidentiality agreements. All aspects of such arrangements are covered, including competition, IP, tax and employment
  • Working closely with the functions to ensure that appropriate risk management procedures are in place to cover contractual and compliance risk management
  • Work closely with other members of the Legal, Ethics and Compliance and IP team to ensure global consistency in legal and compliance risk management
  • Providing legal and compliance training (ABC, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Competition and Sanctions)
  • Promote Code of Ethics within the Business and an approach to doing business that reflects company commitment to doing business ethically, in accordance with its values
  • Managing wide range of improvement projects within the legal team
  • Providing legal input to negotiation of purchase agreements
  • Implementing and maintaining standard form documents and procedures
  • Managing dispute and negotiation of dispute settlements/litigation management
  • Managing specialist legal services provided by external firms, such as non-UK advice on corporate, commercial, litigation, employment, tax, IP, property and environmental law, settling budgets for advice presented by these firms and managing that legal spend

Qualifications/Candidate Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Lawyer with at least 6-years broad legal experience in either a leading firm or an in-house role
  • Current practising certificate
  • Previous experience working in an international environment
  • Exposure to corporate and/or commercial law
  • Experience dealing with compliance matters

Advantageous:

  • Experience of IT and technology related contracts
  • Exposure to intellectual property and competition law
  • Dispute management experience
  • Experience working within a PLC
