Every year, our team changes the lives of 301,000 children, young people and their families - but for every child who needs help to get help, there's plenty more to do. That's where you come in.

Swansea Carers Short Breaks provides support to children and young people with disabilities. This includes support to access community based activities in small groups or activities at the project base. We work in conjunction with our local authorities to provide an outcome focused service to children and young people. Our sessions are aimed at providing a fun and safe environment, whilst working towards individual targets and achievements. There may also be opportunities for staff to cover sessions in other projects within our cluster, which will add to your skills and experience.

The role

You'll be working directly with the children and young people, which involves administrating medication (with training), supporting with personal care needs and leading activities among other relevant duties identified by the project. Workers are also required to transport the children in their own vehicles. We run sessions most weekday evenings (approx. 4.00pm to 7.00pm) and on Saturdays (approx. 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1-4pm) so you would be working a minimum of 3 shifts a week during term time. There is also an opportunity for extra hours as we run play schemes during the school holidays.

The difference

  • You'll significantly improve young people's lives:
  • By helping children and young people to reach their potential.
  • By providing a safe and fun environment for disabled children and young people
  • By being a key worker for children and young people attending the session
  • By accurately keeping sessional records and updating the progress of children and young people

You'll need:

  • Full UK driving licence with business cover on insurance. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities (ideally children and young people)
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or the willingness to work towards this
  • Strong communication skills
  • Understanding of Safeguarding
  • Ability to work in a group and team environment
  • Good report writing skills
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to your work and job

The rewards

  • Minimum 29 days' holiday (pro rata)
  • Flexible working, including maternity, paternity and adoption packages
  • Season ticket travel loans
  • Company pension scheme
  • Discounts at major high street retailers.

Plus, there's a lot more besides.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to vulnerable children's lives and to build a fulfilling and meaningful career with a leading UK children's charity.
