Overview:
Recruiting for a PROCESS ENGINEER to be based at a large International Chemical Manufacturer based in Royston, Hertfordshire with occasional travel to another site in Enfield.
Role offers full time hours and is temporary; initial 3-month contract with potential to be extended.
Job Purpose:
To support the development and implementation of the Process Safety Management strategy for Refining & Chemicals Europe.
Be part of a core technical team to ensure focus and delivery of activities regarding process safety and Capital projects delivery.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Help drive department strategy and ensure compliance with Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations, with local Process Safety legislation, internal process safety policies, procedures and programs on all new Capital projects
- Work independently taking ownership for engineering programmes (Pressure relief re-validation), leading on specific issues and projects.
- Be capable of generating and reviewing documents such as:
- Process descriptions
- Basis of safety
- Design basis
- Control strategy
- Cause and effect matrices
- Mass balancing
- PFD's
- Control sequences
- Interlock matrices
- P&ID's
- Process design basis
- Equipment specifications
- Instrument specifications
- Provide process expertise to enable Hazard studies to be carried out on new process plants and Process Hazard Reviews on existing operations
- Carry out appropriate risk assessments (Management of Change (MoC) assessments COSHH, Manual Handling, etc) for the development work
- Participate in process safety incident investigations and provide technical support for plant operations if necessary
- Assist the Capital Projects team by providing technical expertise including developing process flow diagrams, conducting trials on new equipment and collecting data for design
- Apply existing engineering concepts, taking a complete view, to solve complex issues
Qualifications/Candidate Specification:
Essential:
- Previous Process Engineer experience (or equivalent)
- Will hold a degree in Chemical Engineering based subject or equivalent
- 5 years experience working in a process environment (chemical/oil/gas), preferably in an upper tier COMAH site
- High level of numeracy, working with systems and data
- Full understanding of heat and mass balances, P&IDs and PFDs and other process docs
- Knowledge and experience in pressure relief and re-validation
- Demonstrated a high level of understanding and commitment to EH&S
- Ability to distil complex situations into clear and simple summaries for presentation to non-subject-matter expert/senior leadership teams
Advantageous:
- Knowledge and understanding of DSEAR & ATEX
- Knowledge and understanding of SIL and functional safety
- Knowledge and experience of MoC, and MoC facilitation
- Chartered member of appropriate institute (e.g IChemE, IMechE, IOSH, etc.)
Scope:
- Be a key member of the site team in driving process safety across R&CE
- 1 to 2 direct reports
- Present progress towards achieving Process Safety to key stakeholders
- Provide support in process safety & engineering activities
- Engage with Operations and Technical departments
