Pay rate: £36 - £40 per hour

Contract: Temporary assignment up to March2021

What is the role?
You'll be tasked with: to determine and process planning applications and all other matters relating to carrying out the council's statutory and non-statutory development management functions. To interpret and provide guidance on all planning matters for the public, council and community.
To ensure the provision of an effective Development Management Service, promoting and developing the service in accordance with Council strategy.
You will be dealing with householder / county matter applications, pre-application advice requests and condition discharge proposals of occasional complexity and more complex new build proposals.
- As a Senior Planning Officer, you will play a big part in achieving this vision. With businesses and communities depending on your skills, you will find your greatness using your professional expertise in leading projects and managing major planning applications to achieve high quality developments.
- A skilled professional, you will be responsible for giving definitive advice on behalf of the Council. It's a varied, challenging role in which you'll manage complex and major planning applications and appeals for residential and commercial developments.
- You'll be able to take a proactive project management approach to proposals from pre-application to delivery, resolve complex issues, and present and explain applications to the Council's Development Management Committee. With everyone from Councillors to developers looking to you for specialist guidance, it's vital that you understand and uphold best practice.
What will you need?
- You will have a degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning, or have equivalent relevant experience working in Planning.
- MUST be a member of the Royal Town Planning institute (RTPI) (Essential)
- Must have Experience and Knowledge handling a wide range of planning applications whilst working in a local authority.
- Good political and commercial awareness, and strong communication skills.
- A gift for influencing others and leading partnerships and be committed to evidence-based decision making.
- You will attend, as necessary, meetings of the Council and its Committees, and meetings in the community outside of normal working hours with the ability/willingness to travel.
