Guidant global are recruiting on behalf of UCL for a Training and Clinical Support Librarian within Library, Culture, Collections and Open Science. This role is a temporary position with a duration of 4 months. This is an on-campus role. It is not suitable for regular remote working however occasional remote working may be available as opportunities arise.
The Post holder will be part of a library skills team providing training and clinical support services delivered from the Cruciform Hub. They are responsible for promoting and facilitating and provide a variety of study areas, computer clusters and teaching spaces.
In this role, you can expect to:
- To support development and delivery of a comprehensive training and specialist enquiry service.
- Design and deliver a regular information skills training programme for all library users, and contribute to the inductions offered to new library members.
- Provide guidance and training in using bibliographic databases and other electronic resources to users, both on demand and in pre-arranged tutorials for individuals and small groups.
- Organise and provide an effective enquiry service for all library users, ensuring a timely and appropriate response to enquiries made in person, by email or by telephone, and dealing with enquiries referred by members of the team.
- Provide specialist support for researchers including support for systematic literature reviews, Open Access, and training in using the UCL Research Publication Service, the UCL institutional repository UCL Discovery and UCL Discovery Plus for partner NHS Trusts, and reference management software (eg EndNote and Mendeley).
- Plan and facilitate critical appraisal sessions, following appropriate training.
- Develop expertise in new technologies to support education and service delivery at the point of need, including the clinical setting.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of service and resource developments, regularly update print and web-based guides and provide training for library colleagues.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A recognised qualification in librarianship or information studies
- Up-to-date and significant experience of working in a health or medical library.
- Experience of providing training in the use of healthcare knowledge resources, including designing, and delivering training courses
- Experience of handling library enquiries, both face-to-face and electronically
- Experience of conducting literature searches
- Experience of using and providing training in personal reference management software, especially EndNote or Mendeley.
- Skills in finding, evaluating and using health and medical information
- Good presentation skills
- Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to convey potentially complex information clearly
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to tailor professional communication effectively to different audiences
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload, meet deadlines and work accurately with attention to detail.
