The role
North Yorkshire Young Carer's project -Selby, Harrogate and Craven provide a service which supports Young Carers and their families. The charity is responsible for identifying and responding to the needs of Young Carers across these 3 areas, by safeguarding their health and wellbeing, supporting them with education, training and employment and increasing their access to leisure, cultural and social opportunities.


As a Young Persons Assistant your role is to assist the team to ensure a safe and supportive environment.


You will make a difference by:

- Provide individually or as part of a team, practical quality care, support interventions and range of activities and experiences to children, young people and families, as advised and in line with agreed plans.

- To take part in group activities with young people.

- Be alert to child protection and safeguarding issues and inform appropriate line managers about concerns in line with our safeguarding policies and procedures.

- Maintain effective communication and liaison with children, young people, families, colleagues and external agencies to ensure good working relationships.

- Complete relevant forms and use appropriate procedures and IT systems to ensure accurate and contemporaneous recording and retention of information.


You will need:

- Good standard of general education.

- Experience of working and/or volunteering with children, families, and/or communities.

- An understanding of the importance of keeping children and young people as the focus of all work.

- Good communication skills both written and verbal.

- An understanding of Safeguarding and willingness to enhance learning and to report matters in accordance with agreed procedures.

- Ability to remain calm, demonstrating tact and understanding and Action for Children's values and behaviours.

- Ability to engage with children and their families and to be respectful of professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
