How do we work?

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children across the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 301,000 children, young people and their families - but for every child who needs help to get help, there's plenty more to do. That's where you come in.

Doing vital work that has a direct and lasting effect, you'll be helping some of our most vulnerable children, their families and our society. Like us you'll deal in action, always ready to intervene to ensure the children in our foster care are safe, happy and well cared for.

Our Place is our new, OFSTED registered, 4-bedded residential unit for children and young people aged 8 to 19 with physical and learning disabilities. This will be their permanent home.

As an Assistant Residential Worker, you'll help our team provide a safe and caring environment, supporting the children with household tasks and all aspects of their care during the night.

You'll be working 37 hours a week, on night shifts from 9:30pm to 7:30am.

How will you make a difference?

  • By ensuring the safety of the children during the night
  • By seeing to any of the child's needs during the night
  • By completing household tasks
  • By completing relevant paperwork

What will you need?

  • A Diploma Level 3 is desirable although not essential but you must be willing to work towards this if you don't already have this
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to manage own workload
  • Self-motivated
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • A positive approach to work

What are the rewards?

  • Discounts at major high street retailers.

Plus, there's a lot more besides.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to vulnerable children's lives and to build a fulfilling and meaningful career with a leading UK children's charity.
