The role
Action for Children's team in Guernsey provides a variety of unique and innovative services to children, young people and families. Our Youth Housing service provides accommodation and support for young people who are experiencing various difficulties in their lives - a new model of delivery is being embedded at the start of our new contract. Our team also delivers a significant Health Promotion service in schools (drugs, alcohol, tobacco), as well as support for young people under 25 who struggle with substance use and we are part of a new Stronger Families partnership on the Island.
We are looking for an exceptional Children Services Manager who can lead and develop our cluster of services in the Bailiwick of Guernsey - you will be passionate, ambitious, collaborative and inclusive. You will lead an established and motivated team to meet and exceed contract specifications, whilst ensuring high quality safeguarding practice. We have strong working relationships with many partners, established through our presence in Guernsey for over 20 years, so we are looking for someone who can nurture, support and further develop these partnerships. Close collaboration with Action for Children's Fundraising and Comms teams and other internal departments, based in the UK, is also an important part of this role.
You will make a difference by:
- Promoting the highest standards of safeguarding practice through leading and managing processes and actions around safeguarding, fearlessly speaking out for children, families and young people.
- Providing effective leadership and strategic development of our services in Guernsey, extending our impact.
- Developing and maintaining effective networks, relationships, partnerships and contacts to improve outcomes for children, young people and families in Guernsey.
- Recruiting, leading, motivating and managing a range of social care and support staff to deliver high quality health and social care services.
You will need:
-A relevant health, social care or education qualification, plus a leadership / management qualification (or equivalent experience).
-Evidence of ongoing training and development.
-Experience of the successful management and delivery of commissioned services, including significant working with health and social care commissioners and other multi-agency partners.
-Significant experience of managing and developing operational services for children, young people and their families.
- Significant experience of leading, motivating and managing teams of social care and support staff to deliver high quality health and social care services.
- Significant experience of ensuring effective safeguarding practice and processes are embedded as a core aspect of the service.
-Experience of successfully managing large operational budgets (circa £1m) and achieving required contributions.
- To be able and willing to travel as needed, including to meetings in the UK (on average several times a year).
-To able to take part in the out of hours management rota for local services (currently 1 week in 3).
