A new role has been created for an Operations Support Officer, reporting to the Head of Air Operations, to enable safe, compliant and successful global operations of the Zephyr Remotely Piloted Air System. The role will include liaison with the AALTO HAPS Senior Leadership Team, Post Holders and internal and external support services in order to ensure the successful delivery of Zephyr Operations. The successful candidate will lead a newly formed CSO support cell.

Tasks & Accountabilities

Main tasks and responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Coordination of multiple work streams to enable the planning and delivery of successful flight campaigns across multiple operating locations and for multiple customer requirements.
  • Development of doctrine, policies, processes and toolsets to enable the delivery of Zephyr operations in a safe, timely and transparent manner.
  • Establish, manage and nurture the Operations support cell from a team of dedicated and borrowed resource to facilitate those activities necessary to deliver the above.
  • Provide accurate reporting to stakeholders on progress to achieving the above activities, clearly articulating risks and the need for additional support.

Day to day responsibilities shall include:

  • Providing support to the CSO first line including feasibility studies, site studies, scheduling and costings.
  • Act as the focal point for data dissemination into and out of the CSO team.
  • Delivering active resource planning across the entire Air operations department with clear communication to those affected.
  • Represent AALTO HAPS / Air operations to national airspace and air traffic regulators, and strategic partners and agencies.
  • Co-ordinate pre-deployment activities ensuring alignment to customer requirements and AALTO HAPS values.
  • Coordinate with relevant support services to ensure records, licenses, publications, plans (logistics, training, recruiting) are all maintained.

  • Additional tasks as directed by the Head of Air Operations as applicable to the role.

Desirable attributes

  • Experience of Unmanned Aerial Systems in an operational environment.
  • Experience of developing governance and processes for air operations support.
  • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team in a complex organisation with adherence to safety critical policies and procedures.
