Guidant Global is recruiting on behalf of UCL for a Research and Finance Manager role for a 6-month contract with an immediate start.

The post-holder will be part of the Research Finance and Compliance department. The Research and Finance Manager will be responsible for a team of Research Finance Adminstrators with specific respjsibility for the recruitment, new staff induction programmes, probation reviews, workload allocation, perofrmance management, coaching and annlua appraisals.

Duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the appropriate personal and professional development of the team, identifying training and development needs to maintain a quality support service.
  • Deal with staffing issues, calling on specialist professional advice or referring to specialist services, when appropriate.
  • Provide an institution-wide post-award management function ensuring a professional, high-performing and consistant support service. Including resilient financial processes and controls for the research portfolio.
  • Manage and monitor the financial approval of research staff appointments to ensure service standards and monthly payroll deadlines are met.
  • Manage and monitor the financial approval of studentships and tuition fees to ensure service standards are met.
  • Manage fluctuating workloads and conflicting deadlines, prioritising and re-allocating work amongst the team members and monitoring workload and delivery.
  • Review and authorise the reconciliations of income and expenditure and submission of claims (invoices and financial statements) to external funders. Ensuring expenditure is controlled within budget, compliant with contractual requirements and the claims are submitted in a timely and accurate manner. To raise and resolve any issues arising from the monitoring.
  • Ensure knowledge of UCL's policies, funders terms and conditions, accounting treatment and other post award related matters are comprehensive and up to date within the team and are effectively communicated across UCL.

Person Criteria:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Experience of the financial management of post-award aspects of research and innovation awards.
  • Experience of effective team management and staff development, including the setting of service standards and the monitoring of performance
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc.
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
  • Being organised and keeping track of your work.
  • Sharing relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Accepting accountability for your own decisions and actions.
