The role
Working in residential care is both challenging and rewarding. Our aim is to give every young person we work with the support and guidance to reach their potential and support their aspirations for a positive future, and this is a vital part of our work. As a Residential Worker you will be supporting three young people in long term residential care with various learning difficulties who can often display challenging behaviour. We are collocated with a short break services that offers respite for young people with various learning difficulties who also presents with a range of challenging behaviours. Although based within the residential service, there is an expectation that staff work across both services. Both services are based in, Eastwood in the south side of Glasgow.
As a Residential Worker (Day shift) you will be encouraging and supporting young people between the ages 8 and 18 in reaching their full potential and achieving new objectives by creating a stimulating environment whilst ensuring safety at all times. Therefore you will require sound knowledge of care planning under the GIRFEC principles and national care standards along with a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding. You will be planning and supporting young people in taking part in activities based at the service as well as out in the community such as trips to the cinema, soft play, beach, swimming, bowling and various other sports activities in order to develop their social and life skills. You will also provide support with day to day activities, attend to personal care and administer medication following appropriate training.

- Helping the children in all aspects of their care and supporting their health and wellbeing.
You will need:
- Flexibility in working patterns and for the needs of the service including mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Experience of working in residential care setting and undertaking personal care as required.
- Safeguarding knowledge.
- Knowledge of GIRFEC and National Care Standards
- Ability to work well as part of a team and in your own initiative.
- Experience of working with children/young people with disabilities and/or challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- Be caring, compassionate and committed to making a difference.
- Be positive and aspirational about self and others.
- SVQ Level 3 Children and Young People or HNC in Social care or equivalent for Residential Workers
