Guidant Global is working with the UK's trusted Ministry of Defence partner, MBDA, who need a Safety Engineer to be at the core of the business in Bristol to influence the safety aspects of technically complex and challenging products.

As a Safety Engineer with prior experience, you will play a vital role in analysing the boundaries of best practice; this will implicate optimising the effort dedicated to safety assurance to balance safety against the inherently lethal attributes required of complex weapon systems.

What you'll get to do as a Safety Engineer:

The Safety Management Plan defines system and sub-system safety activities during all lifecycle phases (but mainly the development phase)

  • Hazard identification exercises (SWIFT and HAZOP);
  • Hazard management and risk analysis, including fault tree and event tree analyses
  • Construction of safety assertions and ALARP statements
  • Provision of support to internal and external project Safety Panels and Committees; (in conjunction with safety focal points)
  • Assist in the management and integration of these activities with system engineering and design programs to ensure the timely delivery of material supporting the safety case
  • Understanding of DEF-STAN 00-056, including the ability to write Safety Management Plans that meet its requirements.

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying the UK and International system engineering processes, particularly in safety-related systems and safety assessment procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of how the hazard analysis process integrates with the system engineering process to influence the design.
  • Ability to deliver supporting information (Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, FTA, etc.).
  • Good verbal, written communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of other engineering disciplines (design, software, manufacture, etc.) is also beneficial.
  • Require exposure to more electrical than mechanical

More about the role:

MBDA's relationship with the UK military spans back over 70 years. They have delivered countless landmarks in defence engineering, supplying vital defence capability to meet the needs of the armed forces over land, sea, and air.

This role is based at MBDA's, Bristol's state of the art site, which plays a key part in missiles operations. The location offers excellent transportation links, outstanding learning and development opportunities, and social, charitable, and sporting activities.
