How we work:

Action for children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year our organisation changes the lives of 390,000 children, young people and families.

Wigan Intensive Family Support Service, is a commissioned service by Wigan Council aimed at supporting families in need so that their children can remain safely at home in their care.

We work intensively with families, for up to 6 months, and would usually carry out 3-4 home visits per week to the family home, helping with routines, budgeting, safety, parenting, health and relationships. Attendance at meetings is also required. The approach of a family intervention practitioner needs to be motivational, understanding, persistent and holistic.

The service currently operates from Worsley Mesnes Methodist Church, Holt Street, off Poolstock Lane, Wigan. WN3 5HS. The role requires the team member to be based here. We are looking for someone who can split the 22 hours over 4 days but we are happy to discuss other potential options at interview stage.

How you'll make a difference:

By supporting the staff in the Wigan Intensive Family Support Service

By maintaining and updating internal and external information systems to ensure accurate recording of all aspects of the service relating to hosts and young people

By processing invoices

By supporting with Data recording and analysis

By using Action for Children's corporate systems and relevant databases.

By undertaking reception duties

By undertaking general office support tasks

What you'll need:

  • Business Administration S/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification or work experience.
  • Experience in an administrative role with excellent communication skills
  • Good Microsoft office skills, specifically Excel
  • Good at prioritising and meeting deadlines with excellent organisation and planning skills
  • Be able to work on own initiative and as part of a busy team
  • Understanding the principles of Safeguarding and Confidentiality
