My client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of spacecraft, satellite and secure communication systems. They are an international pioneer within the Defence and Space domain, delivering challenging and exciting projects based on the latest, cutting-edge technologies.
Due to growth, they are currently recruiting an Electronic Assembly Quality Assurance Engineer to join their established Portsmouth site:
Mission:
To provide materials, mechanical parts and processes engineering support for Electronic Assemblies to business unit projects as required. Assuring the quality of materials and processes used in our clients' products. This role reports to the Head of Quality, Communication Products UK and is based in Portsmouth.
Main functions:
Provide support to the project/product team Materials and Process Engineers, to satisfy internal customers (projects, product teams, manufacturing, AIT, procurement, design office) by:
- Assuring performance of planned activities, on time and with respect to the governing product assurance requirements.
- To instigate and manage to completion materials and processes selection, development, evaluation and qualification programmes.
- Facilitating the engagement of other specialist team members when necessary.
- To participate in risk reviews at all stages of product design, development and manufacture, ensuring that materials and processes risk retirement plans are carried through.
- To prepare declared materials and processes lists and ensure that adequate materials and processes qualification has been achieved by CDR.
- To review and approve subcontractor/supplier materials and processes documentation. To monitor the technical performance of subcontractors and suppliers and participate in audits.
- To maintain awareness of developments in the field of materials and processes.
- Support the Product Assurance Managers in performing Mandatory Inspection Points (MIP), review of documentation and drawings where required and support to Manufacturing Readiness Reviews
Required skills:
- Previous experience within fields such as electronics technology, production processes for soldering, SMT and PCB's and/or materials and processes for structural use, welding, metal finishing, metallurgy, paints, coatings and adhesives.
- Good interpersonal skills, communication and presentation capability. Openness and flexibility.
- Customer and results oriented.
- Facilitation skills for leading problem solving and risk analysis.
- Autonomy, ability to work with minimum supervision.
Required work experience:
- Experience of working in a controlled, high technology environment.
- Multidisciplinary team working.
Other requirements:
- Appreciation of audits and continuous improvement.
- Awareness of health and safety, environment and COSHH.
- Occasional national and international travel.
- Ability to analyse data
- Management of workload and prioritisation of jobs
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications, ECSS, ESCC, ASTM, ISO etc.
- Knowledge and appreciation of EEE specification systems and processes would be a distinct advantage.
- Certification to ECSS inspection standards
- If a candidate holds any EASA accreditations such as: ECSS-Q-ST-70-08 / ECSS-Q-ST-70-38
Also considered is a background in an Aerospace Electronics environment - Surface Mount Technology (SMT) particularly desirable.
Qualifications:
- HNC level or better in Manufacturing Engineering, Materials and Processes or relevant industrial / manufacturing / engineering experience
You will be expected to work a 37-hour week with an initial length of contract is 12 months.
All offers will be subject to successful referencing process and will involve a BPSS clearance to start, SC Clearance later required
