Giving children and young people the foundations they need to thrive.

The role

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children across the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 301,000 children, young people and their families - but for every child who needs help to get help, there's plenty more to do. That's where you come in.

The project helps vulnerable young parents aged 16-25 who are making a start on living independently as a family. We help them set up home, develop the skills of managing a tenancy, parenting and life skills.

You will make a difference by:

- Supporting families on a 121 basis to provide housing & parenting related support, information, advice, advocacy and skill building to help them achieve a safe, stable and secure home and family life. Support is undertaken through home visits (where/when safe do so & inline with Covid Health & Safety Regulations & Policies), virtually online and phone.
- Supporting young families to maximise their income in applying for entitled Welfare Benefits and Grant applications, and with increasing their skills in money management by budgeting and dealing with debt where necessary.
- Supporting them to achieve their personal goals e.g. going back to education, gaining employment etc.

You will need:

- NVQ3 Health & Social Care or appropriate equivalent qualification or already be working towards this.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to build relationships at all levels across multiple agencies.
- An understanding of the issues faced by young parents and the ability to engage with them and build trust.
- The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
- A knowledge and understanding of working with housing, welfare benefits, debt and parenting related issues.

The way we work

We work to make sure every child and young person has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their potential. If you share the same vision, we want you to join our team.

Rewards

We want our employees to feel valued and rewarded for the vital work they do. When you work with us, we'll recognise your efforts with generous annual leave, a comprehensive employer-matched pension scheme and a range of deals and discounts on our dedicated benefits portal.
