Bridgend Families First supports families with children and young people as part of the Families First Programme. Our aim is to ensure families are confident, nurturing, resilient and safe by helping them to develop the skills to enable this.
As an Action for Children Parenting Practitioner you will be working within our Parenting team in the Bridgend Families First service. You will be delivering a range of Parenting programmes, focusing on improving parenting skills and increasing parental understanding of their child's development and learning. You will support parents to achieve positive outcomes for the whole family and make sustainable changes.
How you'll make a difference:
- By delivering Parenting support in partnership with Welsh Government guidelines
- By delivering approved evidence based Parenting programmes e.g. Take 3, NVR, The Parent Factor in ADHD, Family Links-The Nurturing Programme or Handling Children's Behaviour.
- By promoting courses, taking referrals and allocating places.
- By ensuring data is collected in line with service requirements i.e. completion of pre and post assessments of parents and fully completed registers/details in line with required recording systems.
- By ensuring case file records and plans are in place for parents attending programmes both on an individual and group basis.
- By promptly identifying safeguarding concerns and to act in accordance with policy and procedures.
- By establishing effective referral processes, both internally and externally.
- By supporting the development of parent self - help support groups to address parenting issues identified through sessions.
- By providing effective links with Partners, Schools, Health and Children's services.
- By attending team meetings and contributing to overall service delivery.
- Flexible approach to working and able to work hours on a Monday and Friday day time.
- Able to occasionally cover some very early evening parenting work.
What you'll need:
- NVQ Level 3 in Child Care/ development or equivalent
Experience of working with parents and families and achieving positive outcomes for them. - Experience of supporting families to manage their children's behaviour by using bespoke and evidence based parenting programmes delivered on an individual and/or group basis.
- Knowledge and /or experience of Parenting Programmes either Take 3, NVR, The Parent Factor in ADHD, Family Links-The Nurturing Programme or Handling Children's Behaviour.
- Experience of multi-agency working especially regarding safeguarding procedures.
- Experience and engagement of team meetings
- Practical knowledge and understanding of the requirements of safeguarding and child protection.
- Understanding of the skills needed to undertake assessment of need.
- Knowledge and understanding of parenting strategies and the psychological principles that parenting programmes are based on.
- Ability to manage own workload and deliver within agreed timescales, using appropriate judgement to and refer matters when necessary.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, in particular the ability to prepare written reports that may be viewed by third parties.
- Understanding of the management of sensitive information and data (GDPR).
- Good IT skills - Use of Word, Excel and Office 365 and other systems as appropriate to role.
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how to integrate into service planning and delivery.
- Understanding of confidentiality and the importance of maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ability to travel to undertake home visits
